Organisation Category: Funeral Director Organisation
Established in 1905, the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) represents more than 3,700 UK funeral homes nationwide, UK and overseas suppliers to the profession and overseas funeral firms. The NAFD represents all types of funeral directing businesses – including independent family firms, corporate businesses and major funeral groups. Our members conduct in excess of 80% of UK funerals every year.
The NAFD supports its members in arranging meaningful funerals, and caring for bereaved people, providing advice, advocacy and support.
The NAFD’s lion logo is claimed to be the ‘kite mark’ of quality assurance, guaranteeing the highest professional standards. The NAFD say bereaved families can turn to an NAFD member firm with confidence to arrange a funeral that is a fitting final farewell to their loved one.
The Association represents the funeral profession at all levels of Government in respect of legislation and campaigns on issues affecting not only funeral directors, but also the bereaved. We provide informed opinion to Parliamentarians, Government agencies and consumer groups on all funeral matters.
The NAFD also takes the lead in education within the profession and is responsible for a range of professional development programmes, recognised by major UK educational bodies such as the National Open College Network and Birmingham City University.
Dispute Resolution: NAFD Resolve
The National Association of Funeral Directors is committed to supporting its members in providing professional and compassionate care to bereaved people. This includes making sure they properly address any concerns raised about the services they provide.
Although the vast majority of funerals are completed to the satisfaction of the client, there are occasions when something does not go well and help is needed from an independent party to resolve the situation.
NAFD Resolve is the UK’s only free and independent dispute resolution service, which is designed to protect funeral consumers by providing a forum in which they can raise a complaint against an NAFD member and seek redress, while avoiding any stressful confrontation.
It is fully funded by the NAFD, with conciliation and adjudication services provided by qualified professionals from the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR).
