Funeral Director FAQs

How does Memorialise generate its Funeral Arrangements?

We generate a combination of pre-need and immediate need funerals:

  • Our pre-need funerals come from work generated from funeral plans sold and wishes expressed through our extensive care-home resident financial and legal support support services;
  • Our immediate need funerals come from leads generated through our £20,000 a month national advertising campaigns and our white label Price Comparison Service which is about to power-up all the UKs major price comparison sites;

What is the 5% Commission charged on: What is included and excluded?

The 5% Commission is payable on any service you sell or resell.

It specifically excludes what are commonly termed “expenses”  (such as Cemetery and Crematorium Fees and Celebrant Fees)

Hence you pay 5% commission on:

  • Funeral Director fees (your charges)
  • Uplifts to “standard packages” (which might include a better quality coffin, more cars, specialist hearses etc).

Commission is normally paid on services which are bought through, or available on, your pages on the Memorialise Website.

If you have a question about commission, please open a chat on the concierge service or raise it as a question on the Funeral Helpdesk.

When does the Funeral Director get paid and how?

The Funeral Director gets paid according to the schedule they set at the time payment is remitted by the customer.

Payment is remitted immediately from the customer’s credit or debit card to the Funeral Director’s own account with the website’s card processing company Stripe. (If you do not have a Stripe Account one can be created at the time you sign up with us).

Typically Stripe will transfer funds to the Funeral Director’s nominated bank account 7 days after payment by the customer.

Your Payment Schedule

The Funeral Director sets up their own payment schedule to meet their requirements. Memorialise can accommodate a number of payment options including:

  • Full payment immediately (or on acceptance)
  • Payment of deposit (or multiple payments/deposits and balance by Specified Date
  • Credit Plan payment (for all or part of invoice) through our partner Funeral Safe
  • Funeral Plan payment through Memorialise owned funeral plan provider Funeral Assured.

Payment options can vary according to product. For example a Funeral Director can require immediate payment for a Direct Cremation but accept a 50% deposit and give 28-day payment terms on a Full Service funeral.

We are a funeral director with a large number of branches. Is there an easy way to set this up/participate?

We offer a bulk listing service for any firm with three or more branches. Contact our helpdesk if you require our assisted multi-branch service.

Services we can provide include:

  • all enquiries being dealt with at the branch level with payments made to the branch;
  • all enquiries being dealt with at the branch level with payments made to head office;
  • all enquiries being dealt with at head office level with payments made to head office;

and any other variation.

Can I adjust my prices at any time?

Permanently/Semi-Permanently Changing Prices

You can adjust the price up or down at any time you wish through your management area and this will be reflected immediately on the website and in our searches. This can be done to show a permanently more favourable price in search returns than that quoted by a local competitor.

Temporary Prices and Special Offers

You can also operate special offers such as temporary or targeted reductions through “Money Off” promotions which will promote the lower price.

Money Off Promotions can be organised in a number of ways:

  • across a number of FDs through Memorialise (for example our Golden Ticket” promotions);
  • through our partners (for example FuneralSafe promotions such as Interest Free Credit);  or
  • by the individual Funeral Director using coupons, promotions and  discounts

Discounts and offers can be organised without reference to Memorialise and any reductions will result in a reduced sales value and hence reduced commission payable.

‘Opting Out’ questions: Can I be on the system without accepting bookings? If I wish to, can I ask to have my listing removed?

At a time the majority of UK Funeral Directors are signing up to the booking service, Funeral Directors who do not wish to sign up will be able to retain their listing without accepting bookings.

However there is a downside to you for this:

In those circumstances should someone seek to make a booking with you, we will inform them that you are not taking bookings through us and will redirect them to make a booking with another Funeral Director we deem to be providing a similar quality of service in your area.

Given that listings are free most Funeral Directors agree it at makes sense to accept bookings from us.

Removal of Listings

It is our aim to make the directory and its listings as comprehensive as possible, hence we start from the position that if you are a respectable and trustworthy professional Funeral Director we will list you or seek to have you listed.

There are obviously some directors that, for whatever reason (now company, new branch) are not yet listed and we encourage them to add a listing. Similarly there are a number of funeral directors that have now closed down. If you know of any such cases please contact us and we will arrange for them to be removed.

There are a small number of funeral directors which we do not wish to recommend for whatever reason (impropriety, criminal activity) and these may have been removed or never listed. If you wish for your listing to be removed please contact us and we will review whether we will do so.

What is the “Retail Price”? How should I set my pricing?

The retail price is the price at which Memorialise sells the Funeral to the Customer. This is the standard price on the website.

Memorialise sells to the public at the price you set. That is the price you receive and on which we charge commission.

Typically the Retail Price for a Simple Funeral or a Direct Cremation or Burial is the price you quote on your CMA Pricing.

However Memorialise also encourages you to provide pricing for the following packages for Price Comparison Purposes:

  • A Full Service Funeral
  • Attended Cremation with Last Farewell

Full Service Funeral
